Press Association Jose Mourinho is annoyed that private, light-hearted comments about Chelsea’s striking options have been made public, Press Association Sport understands. “The problem with Chelsea is I lack a striker,” he said. “I have Eto’o but he is 32 years old, maybe 35, who knows?” Such comments have made many headlines and are understood to have irritated Mourinho, who did not know the light-hearted exchange was being filmed. Canal Plus captured the footage as they were waiting to conduct a one-on-one interview with the Chelsea boss, who was also filmed addressing the possibility of signing reported long-time target Radamel Falcao from Monaco. “I need a striker, Falcao needs a club,” Mourinho is reported to have said. “A player like him cannot play in front of 3,000 people. Monaco is a club to end (your career with).” The furore surround the leaked footage is hardly the ideal preparation for Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 first-leg clash at Galatasaray, ahead of which Mourinho will speak to the media in a pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon. The Blues take on Roberto Mancini’s side on Wednesday in Istanbul, where Chelsea will face the man who scored the European Cup-winning penalty in 2012, Didier Drogba. The Blues manager was filmed by French television station Canal Plus in conversation with a Swiss businessman at a recent sponsor’s event. The recording, aired on Monday, shows Mourinho commenting on the Blues’ lack of depth up front and questioning the age of Cameroon forward Samuel Eto’o.
Kimbrel reportedly was asking for a six-year, $100 million deal this offseason, but that has not been confirmed.MLB Opening Day is March 28. Corey Knebel injury update: Brewers reliever’s elbow woes could open door for Craig Kimbrel The Craig Kimbrel saga could be coming to a close. While the Brewers have had reported “serious interest” in the last week, the Braves also are interested in signing the man who is 14th all time in saves with 333. MLB hot stove: Brewers seriously interested in Craig Kimbrel, report says #Braves are still in on Kimbrel. From what I hear, it’s between Milwaukee and Atlanta barring a late entry. If Braves could get him, their bullpen would from major question mark to solid in a hurry.— David O’Brien (@DOBrienATL) March 22, 2019Both teams’ need for Kimbrel is clear but completely different. The Braves need him to add to a bullpen in desperate need of a lockdown closer or at least back-of-the-bullpen arm. The Brewers on the other hand have plenty of arms, but due to an injury to righty Corey Knebel and questionable health of Jeremy Jeffress, Milwaukee simply doesn’t want to go into the season short-handed where it thought it was strong. Related News While Kimbrel is a very good closer teams should approach his signing with caution based on history. Greg Holland, an All-Star reliever with the Rockies in 2017, signed one day after opening day in 2018 with the Cardinals. He signed so late he didn’t have time to build up his arm and struggled mightily with the Cardinals posting a 7.92 ERA in 32 games. Kimbrel is very close to signing around the time Holland did. Now, Kimbrel is not Holland, but it’s something to take into account for any team wanting to bring him in.
