Mono for Android Open for Developer Testing

first_imgWhat it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Mono for Android, aka MonoDroid, has just launched its Android preview program. MonoDroid, for those unaware, is a development stack for using C# and core .NET APIs to develop Android-based applications. It will be a commercial product in the future, like Mono for iPhone (“MonoTouch”) is now. sarah perez The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Related Posts According to project head Miguel de Icaza, “all the embarrassing bugs” have now been fixed, and the platform is available for testing by anyone interested in doing so. On his personal blog, de Icaza noted that the project uses a library profile that is better suited for mobile devices. That means they removed features that are not necessary, he says, like the entire System.Configuration stack, just as Silverlight does.“In addition to bringing the core ECMA VM to Android,” ?wrote de Icaza. “We bound the entire set of Android Dalvik APIs to C# and in the process C#-ified them. This includes using C# properties for metadata (less XML config file messing around), exposing C# events, C# properties, strongly typed generic types where necessary, implicit conversions where needed, using the C# API style, IEnumerable where appropriate (to let you LINQ over your Dalvik, and we turn IIterable into IEnumerables for you).”Mono for Android also offers the following:The same OpenTK library popular among .NET developers on Windows, Linux, iPhone, allowing you to share the same OpenGL logic across platforms.Support for the full JIT (unlike iOS)Templates for C# (but other .NET compilers should work, if they reference MonoDroid’s libraries).Last, but certainly not least, MonoDroid is now supported on Mac OS X. Developers can get started with testing Mono for Android here. Tags:#Android#mobile#news last_img read more

Is Bing Gaining? For Our Customers, Google Is Still 85% of Search Traffic

first_imgThere has been a lot of speculation since the launch of Bing earlier this year about whether the new Microsoft search engine could take a meaningful amount of search traffic away from Google. Now that Bing has been up and running for almost four months, it’s a good time to measure its progress. Is Bing sticking it to Google? Is Yahoo catching up? The short answer is no. comScore recently released its August 2009 rankings for search engine Market Share. The results showed that Google, Yahoo and Microsoft (Bing) have market shares of 64.6%, 19.3% and 9.3%, respectively. A study of HubSpot customers shows even more Google dominance, as you can see in the chart below.Search Referrals for HubSpot CustomersJune -August 2009  This data came from a sample of 40 HubSpot customers across industries for the 3-month time period from 6/1/09 to 8/31/09. Google had over 85% market share versus Yahoo, Bing, AOL and Ask.com for this customer group. The results were fairly consistent for each industry with Google market share ranging from 82% for construction firms to 87% for software companies. While Google’s astronomical market share for these customers is much higher than what comScore reports, it’s consistent with what we’ve been seeing anecdotally over the past year with other HubSpot customers.More research would be needed to definitively know why Google holds such a strong position as the referrer to these customers relative to the other search engines. It could be the sample set, a significant difference in characteristics of HubSpot customers versus the sites measured by comScore, or a difference in the way the data was analyzed by HubSpot and comScore. Regardless, the takeaway is the same from both studies: Focus your SEO and traffic efforts on Google. SEO for Lead Generation Kit Learn more about how you can optimize your site to get found online in search engines to generate more leads for your business. Which Types of Form Fields Lower Landing Page Conversions?

first_img Topics: Easily build and embed forms on your site. Try HubSpot Forms for free. Thus, the number of fields on a landing page is a balancing act between user experience and business needs. Analyzing over 40,000 landing pages from our customers, I first looked at how conversion rate changes as the number of fields on a landing page increases.I found that as the number of form fields increases, conversion rates decrease slightly, but not as steeply as I expected. I then looked at specific types of form fields, starting first with simple, one-line text fields.Again, to my surprise, I found that there is very little decrease in conversion rate as the number of single line text fields increases. I then turned my attention to more sophisticated fields, first multi-line text entry “textareas.”Here I found that multiple textareas have a powerful depressing effect on conversion rates. Finally I analyzed drop-down select boxes.Again, here I found that the presence of multiple drop down fields on a landing page tends to be associated with lower conversion rates. The takeaway here is you should use as few form fields as you can on your landing pages and be especially cautious with more sophisticated text areas and select boxes. The goal of landing pages is to collect information from visitors to allow them to be potentially converted into a customer. Naturally as marketers or sales people, we want to ask for lots of information from visitors. Users on the other hand want to spend as little time as possible filling out the landing page to get access to the offer they’re trying to get. Don’t forget to share this post!
